MontanaHawk Bullets????
Looking for feed back. How accurate are they and what kind of destruction do they leave behind. Will be 6.5 and 7mm around 3000fps.
Does anyone have anything negative to say, want to hear that too.
On their website they had guy write in about shooting a moose at 300 yds front on and it going out his ass, eight feet of moose, said the moose did not go very far.
Thanks,
Wayne

500grainsI have only used Hawks in big bores below 2400 fps. They caused wicked damage. At 3000 fps I think they will be varmint bullets.

ACRecurveMontana,
I have tried Hawks in 30, 416, and 475 calibers...never did get the same velocities as with other bullets...pressures always got too high before velocities were up to snuff. So needless to say I have no reports of their performance on game! It's a shame too--they seem to work well for others.
Good Hunting,

Sysephus200 gr softpoint in a 35 Rem at 2200 fps in an XP-100 work perfectly...PURRRRFECTLY.
These are the ones before the company was sold, though.

Frank NowakowskiThe Hawks are a good way to go for an oddball which you can't find bullets for. They are simply a pure copper jacket, with an unbonded, pure lead core. Nothing high tech about them.
For a thirty caliber or 7mm I'd stick to standard bullets, the Hawks are NOT worth the trouble.
I have tried them in .338" (limited use), and in a .375 H&H too. In both they squirted out the end of the barrel and hit the target, no problem. On game they are TOO SOFT and I can see no reason at all to use them. There are much better alternatives.
I will say though.....I used them in an old Sharps .45-70 and at the low velocities it produced they really worked well. The Hawks were THE most accurate bullet I ever shot out of that Sharps. I turned a few other buddies on to Hawks and one who uses them in a .40-70 swears by them. Then again he doesn't have any other jacketed alternatives either.
