What are your opinions of Berger Bullets
I had someone suggest using the Berger 175gr target BT long range bullets in my .308win and I was wondering if anybody has used them and what thier opinion is. Supposedly they are a superior bullet and they should be for the price tag on them! Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Have not used them in .308, but in my 6mm Rem I have found the Berger match bullets to be the most accurate compared to the others I have tried.

Berger bullets have a very good reputation among target shooters but Nosler and Sierra match bullets may shoot just as well for you. I use the VLDs for hunting in a 300 Weatherby Magnum, 257 Weatherby Magnum and a 25/06 in which they give excellent accuracy and performance.

In my 308 PSS the 175gr Berger VLD is a deer/hog/black bear killing machine. I highly recommend them. Make sure you get the Berger hunting VLD and not the Target version. Same bullet with a different jacket.

They are great for Paper. I won't ever use one for Hunting anything bigger than a Dog size animal - too Fragile.

Best of luck to you.

I only have experience with the 17, 20 and 22 Bullets and they are extremely reliable. I will be trying the .308 155g bullets in my 30 Rem AR Soon

In 243 win. best groups are with Berger Bullets. For High Powder Rife matches, Sierra still sells the most bullets.

Here is a deer shot with a 25/06 using a very "fragile" 115 gr. Berger VLD. The entry wound was in the rear of the left leg.

I've also taken 4 Pronghorn Antelope using very "fragile" 168 gr. Berger VLDs out of a 300 Weatherby Magnum which, by the way, were purchased before the distinction was made between regular and hunting VLDs.

I tried 22, 243, 270, 308 bullets on paper. I like them better than the other brands I have tried.
I tried 308 210gr bullets at a fairly long range on thin skinned game and I am impressed with the results.
The Berger bullets seem to cost more than other bullets but the results are consistently good.

Bob.

I have yet to use them on game. I currently load the 168gr. in my 7mmSTW & will be trying the 140gr in my 280 Rem this spring.

One thing I do know is that the when shot out of my STW, the Berger leaves quite a bit bigger dent/imprint in my steel gongs (out to 500 yds). Deeper and wider than the 160gr Acuubond going at the same speed.....if that means anything to a guy.

I once shot a 3/8" 10-shot group with a 22-250 and Berger bullets.....the best group of my life.

I won't use them for hunting because I have all I would ask for in Nosler, Hornady, and Swift.....throw in Northfork and frankly I just can't find a reason to use something else.....I have nothing against Berger but they just haven't given me a reason to buy their bullets for hunting.
