I've been thinking of getting a rcbs chargemaster combo for accurate reloading for my 22-250. Now I've been reading a little about the harrells powder measures. Are they extremely accurate with extreme powders such as varget, 4064, ect. I have an old rcbs uni-flow that is not consistent enough for what I want to do. Would I still need a 250 dollar scale even with the harrell? Thanks

I've owned an RCBS Uniflow since the late '70's. It has the micrometer insert. I truly love it.

but....

Last year I put forth the $ to first try the Harrell's Custom 90. Liked it so much, I sent it back! That is I sent it back to get the Premium model and it will only leave my possession when they pry my cold, dead fingers from around it. With ball type powders, I'm getting .1 ES, max. With stuff like H4895, H4350, Rel 22, I'm getting anywhere from .15 to .2 gr max ES.

I "throw" charges of H4895 into 223 pushing a 75 gr Hornady to 2750 fps from a 16" barrell. If you know anything about 223, 2750 fps is NATO spec pressures and riding on the ragged edge of popping primers; yet I've yet to do so. The measure is that accurate and consistent. I don't know what others may say about spending $250 for such a device. Frankly, I don't care what they say or think, if it's different than mine.

Will I keep my Uniflow? Sure! It's a back up in case a natural cause takes out my Premium. But it will only be a back up until I can order a new one.

As far as the practical diff between the Custom 90 and the Premium, besides the material used, bearings on both ends of the culver device, the 90 has 4 clicks between the numbers and the Premium has 6. This means I can get about .1 gr per click with the Premium and about .15 gr per click with the 90. It allows me to dial in a little closer to a desired prop charge weight.
