223AI HEAVIER BULLET POWDERS
Anyone have suggestions for 223AI powders using 69gr to 80gr bullets??? I originally purchased AA2230 but me thinks this may be a bit toooo fast for heavier bullets in the AI.

I use 2460 in my 223 with heavy bullets. 2230 should work as well. Quickload says you might lose 30-40fps of potential max velocity between those two powders.

As usual just my $.02

I'm running a PacNor H-Bar w. 1/7 twist. I really bought the AA2230 with the 223AI in mind. I run plenty of Varget and RL15 in other rifles so I always have that on hand.

I was just concerned that the AA2230 would be a bit to fast. I loaded up 50 rounds last night of various charges of AA2230 so we shall see what i get.

Thanks for the info guys.

My rifles are experiencing the same results as Roger ( Bartsche)..

plus I'll add IMR 3031, IMr 4895, and IMR 4064 and W748.. all are working well with any of those bullet weights...

my priorities are velocity and accuracy..

I've had my best results with w748 and Win SR primers. Probably has something to do with being close to 100% load density.

I was able to get some range time yeaterday. Found the AA2230 to be sweet with the 69 SMK's. 26.8gr and 27.2gr both showed 5 shot sub 1/2" groups. Using Wolf SM R MAG primers, Lapua brass, and all rounds were crimped with a Lee FC die.

Moving to 27.5gr the groups opened up to MOA and at 26.4 / 26 groups were a little over MOA.

In case it's not noted this is an AI version. I could see no presusre signs but havent deprimed so can't tell for sure if pockets loosened up. Using the Wolf SM R MAG primers its hard to see signes on the primer itself....
Will load up some more to make sure the load will replicate. Then it's chrony time!

Thanks for the help!
