Has anybody tried this?
I'm looking for data to load the 7.62x39 with a sabot as 22 bullet. Rifle has a .308" bore. Any experience or ideas?

I found 2 loads in my files -
1) IMR-3031 powder - fill case - velocity listed is 3600+
2) AA 1680 - 32g - velocity is 3153fps
I have not tried these so be cautious - but I have tried loads from the same sources for 30-06 and they were OK

Paul, when using sabots, NEVER fire one through a barrel that has ANY sort of muzzle device on it. Just a safety warning. Others have seen what happens when the plastic gets caught up in a brake or flash hider and they say it ain't pretty.

How is the accuracy with the sabots?

Might be interesting! Wink

I said I tried them, I didn't say they were accurate. By varying the powder charge I was able to get groups down to just over three inches ( at 100 yds ) but no better. From what I've read on the web that's better than a lot of shooters get.

I took a look at the sabot idea a year or two back but decided if they weren't gonna be accurate they weren't gonna be fun. Might as well try and buy some bulk/overruns in 30 caliber and find a nice reduced load.

my experience with sabots was a miserable failure.....lots of keyholes

It wasn't on that case however.
