<Jordan>Which die to use to take .308 brass down to .260?
Gentlemen:
Please save me the cost of trial and error. I want to take some .308 brass down to .260 Remington. What FL die [or dies] do I need to do the trick. I alread have on hand a 7mm-08 FL die, I presume I can simply FL resize with the 7mm die, then hit the cases again with the .260 die.
Thanks,
Jordan

<heavy varmint>Jordan, I see know reason why your plan would not work. I have sized 308 casings down to fit 7-08 in one step without any problems so using the 7-08 die as the "middle man" when sizing down to 260 should work fine. Use plenty of lube and then trim if needed.

<t_bob38>Don't forget to check your neck thickness.

Stonecreek.... but don't turn either die all the way down against the shellholder. Necking down from .308 will allow you the benefit of precisely fitting the shoulder of your new case to your rifle's chamber for perfect headspacing. After sizing down partially with the 7-08 die, carefully size with the .260 die until the brass chambers in your rifle with just a very slight bit of resistance as the bolt turns down. You will now have brass that is tailor-made for your rifle, and which will last for many, many firings.
