<labman>7x57 Mauser
I am looking for some suggested loads for the 7x57 using the Hornady 154gr. round nose. Ugly bullet but very effective on whitetails. I have some loads passed down by another 7x57 shooter but feel they might be a bit hot. (52grs. H-414 using the 154gr. Hornady)

Ku-dudeLabman,
What kind of rifle are you using? This is important with this cartridge. Ku-dude

Bob257That load does seem "warm". I use 50 grains of H414 with the 140 grain ballistic tip.

<Bearhunter>I use 50.0 grains of either H-414 or W-760, with the Hornady 154 gr bullet. Great accuracy, and very effective load. Depending on your gun, I would still work up slowly to it. I truly enjoy the 7x57.

Ku-dudeI just got your email. Your rifle is a strong action and can handle this load. This is close to a maximum load. 48grs of IMR4350, WW Large Rifle Primer, and 150 Rem PSP. This worked quite well in my M77 which also had a long throat. Ku-dude

<eldeguello>I( have never used the Horn. 154 grain, but in my Ruger No. 1A 7X57, I have used several loads with the 160 Nosler Partition that develop over 2800 FPS. These use slow powders, beginning with IMR 4350 and including MRP and Re 22. I can't seem to get enough Re 22 into the 7X57 case to even generate max. pressure signs, even when using 175-grain bullets!! But my gun has a very long throat!!

jstevensI've loaded 53.7 H414 in my Ruger 77 with 140 Nosler partitions for 3038 fps on my chrono. My rifle has a long throat and this load is perfectly safe, but be careful. The 52 grain H414 load with the 154 would probably work in mine. I hunt with some friends with 7mm Mags whose factory loads were slower than this.

BakesDoes anybody know the weight of the bullet in the military 7x57 round? I have a Brazilian 7x57 and would like to construct a load that duplicates the origional one.
Thanks
Bakes

craigsterBrazil and Columbia used 139gr bullets @2950fps, Uraguay 142 @ 2740, Mexico 155s & 162s @2300. Original Spanish loading 173 @2296. This according to Cartridges of the World, Third Edition. Hope this helps.
