8x57 datum measurements
Ok, I've tried the @#!$% search function and cannot find the info I'm looking for.
Could someone help me with the datum diameter and the base to datum length for an 8x57 Mauser round?
I'm trying to do a poor boy head space check on a good BRNO 98k and believe the Winchester factory ammo I'm using is on the short side base to datum.
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks

I see your fine sight has grown since the last time I was there. I found the cartridge diagrams but didn't find the datum diameter or datum length. On an 8x57 is the datum point located somewhere along the shoulder as on many other bottleneck cases? I have a Stoney Point setup and calipers and am trying to use that to measure.I am looking for a number (as .223 Rem = .330" at datum or .243 win= .400 at datum) and a length. Thanks for the help so far.

Per NRA and William Davis Jr. book "Handloading", 1981 has what I believe are SAAMI toleranced drawings of chamber and cartridges.

The 8mm Mauser is is shown as .392" (9.96mm) on both cartridge and chamber.
The same book also shows the .223 as .330" (8.38mm)
The 7mm Mauser is .4294"
The 257 Roberts is .4294"
The 30-06 is .375"
The .308 is .400"

Thanks for the response.
I guess the information on the political forum is like the forum itself, pretty danged close to true, but flavored by nationality, language and experience. .
Thanks again everyone.
Mauser's do divert gas thru the floorplate when they fail don't they. Just kidding . Loads will be mild.
