kennedy25/06 figured I’d ask here first.
I just got a new to me 25/06 model 700 in nice shape. What powders work the best and bullets you would use for it? Will mainly be my mule deer and antelope rifle and smaller. I usually use partitions and ttsx in bigger calibers.

cal30 1906I used Rl22 and IMR 4831 and 4350 but that was 30 years ago and there are probably better powders for it these days.
You will like that cartridge.
When I was shooting it I used 117 grain Hornady and they did everything I wanted on deer and antelope.

DaleI have a Rem. 700 Classic in .25-06. My favorite load is the 115 gr. Nosler partition, Rem brass, Fed. 210 primer, and IMR-7828 powder. For years Nosler said that was the most accurate load in their test rifle. It worked very well in my rifle, and Model 700s owned by several friends. My rifle did not like the 120 gr. partition for some reason. I have shot quite a few mule deer and pronghorns with that rifle.

AtkinsonI always used H-4831 old ww2 issue, but hard to find..Im sure RL-22, RL19 or the new IMR sc 4831 would work...Most reloading books have hundreds of optiions for the 25-06..They nake a small paperback book with all existing 25-06 loads in them..I have one of those for most all calibers. they cost about a $1.50 for each caliber last I checked..best deal out there.

Lamar4831 and rl-19 here.
both types of the 31.
you don't need any fancy dollar each bullets for antelope and deer hunting.
100gr. Hornady and speer's work perfectly good at 3-3200 fps.
I've used sierra's on some decent Mule deer, but they have been hard to get around here for @ 10 years.

crbutlerRL 22 with the 115-120 gr bullets
4350 for the mid weights (100-110)
RL19 for the varmint stuff (75-85 gr)
I should experiment with the 4831.

cgbachMy Ruger #1 really loves 120 gr. bullets and H1000.

StonecreekI've had excellent performance from four different .25-06's using (an amount appropriate to your rifle) of IMR7828SSC behind a 115 Nosler Ballistic Tip. The appropriate amount has bee 55.0 grains in all of the rifles I've had experience with, but your rifle may need more or less. Velocity from a 24 inch barrel runs 3100+ fps. The Ballistic Tip is adequate for the size animals which are your quarry, but if you're more comfortable with a less expansive bullet either the 110 Accubond or 115 Partition should do well. If you happen to run across an elk when deer hunting, the Partition would be the prescription of choice.

BC3My 700 is the varmint special model from the 80s. I've shot a bunch of pronghorn with it all using the Sierra SBT 117 gr bullet. That Sierra may be a soft bullet but it is very accurate and works well on Pronghorn. For powder my favorites are either IMR 4831 or RE17. Lots of powders in those burn ranges (or even a bit slower) will work with this one though. I haven't worked up anything new in 10+ years or so so I can't comment on any of the newer powders. I'm guessing RE16 would be something to look at or maybe IMR7977 if you have any.

2th docI've owned 2 700 BDLs in 25-06 the only issue I have with it has always been the lack of good bullets and selection of them. I have killed several elk and black bears with the 117gr spitzers

Ed ScarboroI've used RL22 and either 4831 IMR or H for years with 100gr TSX or TTSX.

ZekeShikarYour gun will tell you what it likes but for lighter bullets, IMR or H4350 works great and use a slower burning powder for the heavier stuff all the way up to H1000.
On the burn rate chart, I counted 32 different powders that will work..... so you've got some fun ahead of you!
My pet load for years was 57 grains of H450 with a 100 grain Partition but they have better powders out nowadays than H450 that I used mostly.
Note: the reason I bring up 32 different powders is because it's still relatively hard to find a specific powder in stock on line or in stores.
