62gr Speer FMJ in 1-12 twist Savage 12FV .22-250
Anyone try Speers 62gr FMJ in a 1-12 twist or faster? Thinking of getting a Savage 12FV in .22-250.

Twist is to slow if you want to shot hevi bullets in 224 cal a 1in 8 or 7 works much better.

The twist rate chart shows that 1-12 twist in .224 will work on bullets up to 63gr. The 62gr Speer is colse to the edge as far as weight goes. It is the lingth of the bullet that that could make it hard to stabelize. The Speer FMJ boat-tait is longer then most 60-65gr .22cal bullets. I was just woundering if anyone had tryed them in a 1-12 twist?

I shoot them in a Rem. 788 in a .223 w/25/5gr of H335 and the only thing that I notice is that the group is slightly over an inch at 150yds. The twist is 1/12, guess I just got lucky. Haven't tried them past 200 so I don't know if they would stabilize beyond that distance. All in all you would be better with a quicker twist rifle to stabilize them constantly. Good luck!
