Mark in GAAnyone compared Varget and H-4895 in 308 Win?
I have worked quite a bit with H-4895 in my 308 with 150, 165, and 180 grain bullets. Overall I got pretty good results.
I have never tried Varget, but have heard recently that it is superior in the 308.
What do ya'll think? What does Varget offer over H-4895 in the 308 with any of the three standard bullet weight?
Thanks for your help guys.

butchlocbest thing I can tell you is to try varget. I use H335 myself (cause I still got a bunch of it when it was cheap) but I had a good friend who shot the palma team for years and then coached for it. He used 4895 and then switched to varget and much prefered the varget.

courtney platerI've just started using it in my .308 with 150 grain bullets. Normally I'd use IMR3031 or IMR4064 with 165s. I meters well and the loads were as accurate as any other in my rifle. It's supposed to be less temperature sensitive. I take their word for it on that. It performed very well in my .35 Whelen too. For a while it was the "wonder powder" but that title seem to be held by Vihta-Vouri brand. I wonder what the next magic powder will be? Varget is good stuff and should work just fine in your .308. Whether it is better in your gun only working up some loads will tell and that's half the fun.

djpaintlesVarget is superb powder in 308 Win. It gives me better accuracy and velocity than several other powders in 3 or 4 of my favorite 308's. It's worth a try.........DJ

Cal SibleyI use IMR4895 and Varget in my .308Win. The 4895 seems to give me better accuracy in bullets of 150grs. or less. The heavier bullets tend to perform better with Varget. That may just be my rifle though. Best wishes.
