al5black powder measuring
Most all know that black powder be measured when loading, this makes sense because of days gone by, no one had the accurate means of weighing a charge. however with the advent of the metalic cartridge I wonder why ( except for the muzzle loader) we haven't consider weighing. my questions are; how does one know if their volume powder measure is really accurate? does anyone know the volume dimentions or equation for a single grain of BP? and once our volume of powder is carefully measured out, can we not begin to just weigh our Black Powder as we load our BP cartridges?

smalstufJDS makes a black powder version of their Quick Measure. This is a verry accurate measure for black powder. Check it out at

Just weigh the amount you drop and see for yourself!

Black powder is more accurately loaded by volumn because it is so hygroscopic. It soaks up water so readily your weights vary more than you want according to humidity.
Buy a good Black Powder volumn measure with a long drop tube, some Walters Wads and go shooting.
Why weigh them when it's more accurate to drop them?.....................DJ
