LeopardtrackQuick Load Help for PSI..Someone Please
I am wondering if someone here would be kind enough to do a Quick Load for me so that I can know what my PSI is. There are NO signs of
excessive pressure but since I am getting 3,084FPS with a 168gr bullet it sounds too good to be true!
7mm Remington Mag with 26" Benchmark 5R Barrel
168gr Nosler Accubond Lr's 50/1000 off lands
71gr of Reloader#25
I also tried a Max load 79.5gr of Reloader#33
and it was even faster at 3,114FPS, but what bothers me is that it is a 106.2% compression load and I had to screw my die down 3 times to finally seat each bullet, so I am apprehensive about using it. My bullets didn't "Grow" over a few days until I shot them, but I wonder what will happen in extreme temps.
Which way would you go and any advice is appreciated!
BTW They are both equally accurate so I rule accuracy out of my choice.

steve4102Nosler and Alliant list 70gr of R-25 as max for their 160gr bullet. You are over by a full grain with a heavier 168gr bullet.
QL is not magic and is only an educated guess, here is what it says about your load. If this were my load and My rifle I would consider this QL calculation Accurate.
Cartridge : 7 mm Rem. Mag.(CIP)
Bullet : .284, 168, Nosler Accubond LR 58623
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.290 inch or 83.57 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch or 660.4 mm
Powder : Alliant Reloder-25
Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

LeopardtrackThanks Steve!
I am definitely going to back off to 70gr
Too good to be true, but I know allot of guys that go over max saying that for liability sake the max psi is low.
I am getting 3,114 anyway with 79.5gr of RL-33 but it is a 106.2% compressed load so I was trying out other options. My bullets are not"growing" out of the cases so I think I am OK with it...I put a few in the freezer then in the sun and back to room temp and got same COAL so guess it's ok
What would you do if it were your gun??

Shoot it. You are still under 65K and I see little reason to bring any handload in a modern action rifle down to 60K or less when 65K is accepted for many a cartridge.

ramrod340If the load was accurate and I had no pressure signs I would keep it. Check to make sure I don't have a real short case life.
QL is simply another data point. I have a several loads that are a gr or two above book max.
As usual just my $.02

SR4759Check case life by loading a couple at least 10 times. If the primer pocket stays tight your load is ok for that lot of brass.

LeopardtrackThat's great news for me fellas!
I am going to shoot it a bit more then and see what happens with cases
I am getting 3,114fps with 79.5gr of RL-33 so I have two good prospects to mess with

SR4759, just curious, why 10 times? Why not 5 or 3 or...whatever? AIU

LeopardtrackSteve thanks so much for that!
That's great news for me...over 3,100fps and not even near 62,000psi....faster than the RL-25 with allot less pressure. I am going to see what I can do and try to use the 33 instead of 25.
The 33 is a 106.2% compression load but my bullets are not "growing" from the case neck and I even put a few in the freezer, then in the sun for an hour and when I brought them back in the house and back to room temp, I measured them and they were the same COAL from when I loaded them....so hopefully I'm OK.
This is why I resisted getting into Reloading! I knew that I would become obsessed with it and this is exactly what happened...putting rounds in the freezer! I am having a good time however!
Would you go with the 33 or play around a bit with both?
Happy Thanksgiving to you ALL!
