AtkinsonRe: ch-4d dies
Mostly because they are junk and many of them are out of specs..Several of us on this board have been disapointed to downright ticked off with these dies...I had a set of .470 that wouldn't resize to specs and Dave argued that Norma, searcy, HOrneber, and Bell were wrong and he was right, well to heck with that, they didn't work and I had hell getting my money back, finally did and he ripped me off for a $30 restocking fee...He said he would make me another set of dies if I would pay a $50 set up fee!! Jeez! I bought a set of RCBS and they worked fine....

DeerdogsI have a set of CH-4D dies for my 318WR. They have worked fine.

rcastoThey can produce a quality product, but at times you can say "What were they thinking?" I've had both experiences. However, I have had very good customer support on those times I received an inferior product. It probably helps that they are 30 min down the road from where I live and I can see Dave personally. As far as finding an oddball die for anything ever made, they are the place to go.
Dave is also a big bore, African hunting fan.

clayman204I aquired a set of 6.5x54 Mannlicher Shouenauer dies from them (via Old Western Scrounger) and they are fine. Have used them for several years without trouble. I sure wont compare them to Redding Comp however.

Jerry EdenGuys:
I just received a set of CH 6mm-06 dies from Dave. After resizing 25-06 brass down to 6MM using his die, they won't hold a bullet. I have to run the necks into a 243 Win Die, to get enough tension to secure the bullet in the neck.
When I called Dave, he told me I was using the wrong brass,"25-06 brass is just to thin to work with my dies". I think most guys who load this cartridge use 25-06 brass, as it makes forming easier. It remains to be seen what he or they will do about it. I tried to talk with him about it, but he had more to say than I wanted to hear. I'll send um back and see what happens.

fireball168I too, used to live near Mt. Vernon. One day, I decided I was going to stop by....and drove by the place twice. It was(is?) a pretty non-descript, kind of ratty looking warehouse. After pounding on the door, somebody finally let me in.
Lots of junk around, saw a couple of tired looking machines, etc.
Left with a set of .224 Clark dies...which wouldn't hold a bullet after forming. Back and forth, back and forth, finally had them make a set specifically for using Winchester .257 +P brass - and they're great!
However, as with anything, I think they(and we), need to do a better job in what we provide, and ask for. In retrospect, I should have asked for exactly that in the beginning, especially with such an oddball(these days at least) caliber.
Believe it or not, they claimed original dies were supposed to be used to neck 30-06 all the way down?

AtkinsonHe always has some lame a$$ excuse like a 25-06 won't resize to 6mm, and that is just plain BS...He told me that Norma, Bell, Horneber, and Searcy Rifles all used the wrong specs for a .470 set of dies that wouldn't hold a bullet...I agree with Huntingtons, who told me old Dave had no idea how to make a set of dies....I can;t remember being so disgusted with one mans BS...and to have the nerve to want to redo the dies and charge me a set up fee of $50.00 when he made them wrong was the last straw, then charge me a $20.00 restocking fee on my refund, thats plain dishonest.

ffffgmy 9.7 x 72r (.360) drilling dies are fine..i took a lot of work by me and Dave to get this right, as the cartrige has a whole lot of cunfusion.. but i got thedies, c and h gave me the right expander plug and i was off for a summer of fun. the cartige was very difficult to load but i had satisfactory results befor sumer was over.. dave.

VFRI have only one set, 9.3x64 and they are fine. I will probably buy a set in 10.75x68 if I come across a Mauser in that caliber for sale.

Jerry EdenAfter my discussion with Dave at CH, and posting my findings here, I went out and tried the dies with 30-06 brass. Guess what? They Worked. I suppose there is enough difference in case mouth thickness between the 25 & 30-06 cases to create the problem I have been having. I think I'll start looking for a 243 Win neck sizer etc, to take care of the 25-06 cases.
That in itself creates ANOTHER problem, as now I have to figure out which neck thickness my 6-06 likes, LOL.
But I have to be honest, if I had it to do again, I would just buy RCBS, and be done with it.

Bwana-beI would definitely be intersted in the what the neck chamber measured if I were you.
Might make for some interesting pressure problems if you're using thicker brass than the chamber was designed for.

MKane160I bought a set of .375 Taylor dies from CH-4D several months ago. The sizing die is fine, but the seater plug is not shaped correctly to seat .375 bullets. Threaded all the way down, it will not seat the bullets far enough in the case, stopping about 1/4 inch short. I used the seater plug from a set of .338 WM dies, which work fine. But......I should have sent the seater plug back. It doesn't have enough "snout" on it.
