BeMan45/70 load in H&R Buffalo Classic
Does anyone have a good load for use in the 32 inch barrel of the Buffalo Classic?

MasteriflemanThis is not too hot but hot enough to get your attention, best of all, it is very accurate. 46 gr. IMR-4320, 460Gr Cast Performance GC bullet. You get about 1650 fps and I get 1.5" groups maximum at 100 yards in a Marlin 1895 Cowboy (26" barrel), some groups are under 1".

wrongtargetWhat kinda load do you want? The 300gr Nosler partition, rem nickel brass and 9½ LR primers with 56.2 grains of H4198 gives me about 2450fps and moa , first 2 shots one ragged hole and the 3rd a little off that from a scoped BC. I started at 50gr and worked up, I'd advise the same. A friend shoots 63grs of H4198 and the Hornady 300gr, but I think it's too fast for that bullet, but it's real accuract with 1½" groups at 200yds.
Another good one is the 300gr Rem HP and 51.2gr of IMR 4198, win brass and rem 9½ LR, good for 2173fps in the 22" version, I'd expect it to do a little more in the 32" barrel.
I've also shot the 525gr Beartooth Piledriver in my 45-120 BC with a healthy dose of XMP5744 using the data for the 535 Postell from the Lyman 48th, didn't chrono it, but suspect it's around 1750fps. But it was real accurate. I'll be working on a 45-70 load for it soon.
Check out the Graybeard Outdoors NEF/H&R Centerfire forum, lots of 45-70 shooters there...

Scota4570Soft cast 400+ grain bullet with SPG lube. A case full of 2F drop tubed and compressed 1/4" with a seperate die. A card wad. Seat the bullet on the powder. The exact amount of powder is not important. Some guys like magnum primers with BP loads.
