steve4102Hawk Bullets
How do these bullets perform at lower velocities?
I have read many of the posts on this and other forums about these bullets coming apart and turning inside out. I would like to know if these bullets would be a good choice in my 7.62x39 for Whitetails. 130 and 150gr Hawk bullets @2150 to 2200fps. Target distance inside 150 yards.
Thanks

Hot CoreHey Steve, You can go to the
Gary Sciuchetti Bullet Test and see how the "Design" compares with other Designs you are already familiar with.
Mr. Sciuchetti's Test is done on 180gr 30cal Bullets, but it is about as close as you are going to get for Factual Comparative Data at different Velocities. It even shows the Retained Weight for you too.

By the way, I've heard(but have no first-hand experience with this) that the 125gr Nosler B-Tip is a great Deer killer for your little 30cal.
Best of luck to you.

I have used the following Hawk bullets.
In the 9,3x74R the 286gr with the .035jkt. I have shot deer, wild pigs and impala.
All but one have been drop to the shot kills except for one pig that fran about 20 feet.
In my 450/400 double I have taken deer and pigs with the 300gr with the .025jkt. All have been drop to the shot kills.
I have taken one pig with the 450/400 adn the Hawk 400gr .035jkt. Afain a drop to the shot kill. Well actually he was running full speed and at impact he slid a few feet, but seemed to be dead on contact.
Velocities of thise loads have been @2200 to 2330fps. They have performed perfectly for me.

Take a look at the bullet test at the link above.
Note the excellent performance of the ordinary Remington RN SP CL even when compared to the premium Swifts and Trophy Bonded bullets.....
much less a lot of the crappy performing premium bullets.

Marc_Stokeldman, I am having a tough time reading that chart. Is there a more "screen-friendly" version out there?

Hot CoreHey Marc, The last time I checked, he still has some of them available for Sale. I beleive they are $15 and that includes Shipping, which is a tremendous bargain. I have one hanging in my Reloading Room and it is great.
