.280 Loads
Load data for the .280 is not impressive, at least in my reloading manuals. Any loads out there for a 140 grn nosler at around 3100-3150fps? Also, why does the max load vary so much between manuals? It doesn't seem to on other calibers, only the .280.

Most of the .280rem data published takes into account the weaker design of the semi-auto & slide actions that the round was originally desinged for. If you look @ data for the 150gr .270, it will be hotter than 150gr loads for the .280. The new Speer manual seems to be right @ sane levels for the .280. All of my loads exceed most manuals max. recommendations. Sorry, I don't load for the 140gr pills, I prefer 150-160gr bullets.

In my Ruger M77 Mark II Stainless steel .280, I get 3007 fps average using 140 Nosler Baltips, 56.0 grains of Mr3100. It gives me one inch groups at 100 yards. I like this load and the rifle very much. I have a Leupold 3 x 9 scope mounted on it.

I've done well with IMR4831 or Reloader 19 in both my .280's. I'm another one of those 150 grain guys like Fred though. I get 3050 fps with 150 partitions in a 26" barrel. I just don't shoot 140's or lighter.
Just had another one chambered in .280AI forty degree but haven't had time to do any serious loading yet.

I would suggest carefully increasing charges while shooting over a chronograph. Monitor cases; primers just flat or REALLY flat, primer pockets tight, cases stretching, etc.
