<500 AHR>Beartooth Bullets
Has anyone used Beartooth's 335 grain gas checked .416 caliber bullets. If so how accurate are they and how fast can you push them?
Also, any one with experience with Beartooth's 475 grain gas checked .510's. Same questions as above.
Thanks,
Todd E
I'm using the .510 in my 50 Alaskan. No problems at 1900fps so far. Nice bullets but expect a long wait.

<Don G>I used the 375 gr in my .416 Rem. I was able to push them to 2450-2500 before leading got bad. I think the link is still available on the Cast Bullets Forum.

<500 AHR>Al,
How long is a long...1, 2, 6, 12 months?
Don,
How was the accuracy? At the 2450 - 2500 fps did you groups open up any compared to jacketed bullet loads?
Thanks,
Todd E

<Don G>Todd,
I was quoted 12 week delivery last time I asked. I decided to practice with the Speer 350 grain jacketed - about $18/50 from www.wholesalehunter.com. I intend to hunt with the GS Custom 330 HVs and 380 FNs.
My rifle was sub-MOA with jacketed bullets, but the lead bullets got about 1.5 inches at the best velocities - 2200-2300 fps. At 2500 the leading was bad and the groups opened up. I'd try for 2250 fps if I was hunting with them.
Overall I'd say my group size doubled with the lead bullets. I think that is reasonable considering all the lube, etc.
I would not hesitate to use them hunting if I knew all shots would be inside 150 yards. But you just never know...

<500 AHR>Thanks Don G. That somewhat mirrors my experience with cast bullets in other rifles. My plan is to use them for "inexpensive" practice shooting.

Todd, I ordered via online the 18th of December and got them the last week of July. To be fair to Beartooth, they were developing a new bullet lube as they were haveing problems in cold weather with the lube comming out during shipping. Also the owner was battling a illness in early winter. I personaly think a 12-14 week wait is a long time.
