300 WM powder question
How many of you all have had success with IMR 4831 in your 300 WM's with 200gr bullets. Did you get better results with large or large magnum primers? Thanks.

My gunsmith, a competitive shooter himself, recommends Hodgdon 4831 Short Cut. He said using this powder, Norma brass and Sierra MatchKing bullets of the 190-grain variety would save me 20 years in trying to find such a combination. I have a 300WSM, but the 300WinMag is almost its ballistic twin. I submit this for your information and reading pleasure.

One of the best powders for the 300 win mag is the RL-22. I can't tell you how many posts i've read that people have had the best sucess out of their 300 win mag with the RL-22 powder including myself with 180 gr and up bullets.

I've had pretty good luck with H-4831sc but I only use 180gr bullets and a friend of mine shoot IMR-4831 so I loaded up some this week with 180 gr bullets and I averaged 50fps faster than H-4831sc using the same amount of powder with 180gr bullets. I also tried R-19,R-22 and H-1000 and so far H-4831sc has given me my best groups from 100 to 300yds in my Kreiger barrel 300mag. I'm picking the Lilja barrel 300mag today from the gunsmith so will be interesting to see what this one likes best.

Just last weekend I tried IMR4831 and 200gr accubonds in my Browning stainless stalker. I was not impressed. Strange thing is some of my best groups come out of the same keg of powder and 180gr bullets.
