RSYHelp...Flattened shoulders on brass???
I just got through FL re-sizing 20 .270 Win. cases. And something I have never seen before has happened...the shoulders are not smooth around on 5 of them, but feel like a series of flat areas when turned between the fingers.
What gives? I tried sizing them again, but no change. Are they safe to load and shoot? What caused it to begin with? I'm stumped.
Thanks,
RSY

I had this same problem a few years agao! I was using too much lube! ( I dont use any on the shoulder area now)Take your sizing die apart and clean the crap out of it and wipe off the shoulder before you resize. I would use the dented cases.
Have a good one!!

CarnivoreBefore you use the dented brass make sure that the shoulder itself has not been crushed back. You wouldn't want to run into excessive headspace problems.

RSYThe lube must be it. I don't lube the shoulders of my cases, but I was using a friend's dies, and who knows how much build up there was/is in them?
Thanks, fellas,

ricciardelliClean the vent hole in your die.

AtkinsonI know that can happen when the resizer button is undersize and you go to seat a bullet, it will bulge the shoulder. One thing for sure something is pushing down on the mouth of the case so perhaps trimming is in order, turning down the resizer button or backing off the die will fix it.

DutchI've just gone through this, and a friend did as well. The neck of the die was to small, and pinched the neck while seating. As a result, the whole neck was pushed down into the shoulder.
Talk about pulling your hair out!
In this case, though, I'd say lube, or vent hole. FWIW, Dutch.

rejpellyI had the same problem;first make sure the bottom of the die is perfectly clean;use lube just needed;try not putting lube not before half a inch below the shoulder;I use my fingers to put the lube, messy but accurate...

beemanbememy bet is on oil cans. Load 'em up and shoot 'em. Next time don't use so much lube. Also, take the resizing die apart and clean it with gun scrubber before using it again.
