358 UMT/STA questions
I haved a Rem700 LA and a 358 BBL, so naturally the only reasonable thing to do would be build a 358 UMT or STA. It lookes like brass and dies etc are much easier to come by for the STA? Has anyone done the UltraMag wildcat? Can you get formed brass or will i be stuck making it from 338 or 300 brass? Thanks for your help.

Quality Cartridge lists both. However for the cost I'd form unless I needed proper headstamp. My choice the STA. Can't believe you need more gas than that and A LOT MORE DATA erc.

As usual just my $.02

I shoot a couple of .358 STA's and yes, you can find stamped brass. I thought I knew of all the .358 chamberings but have never heard of the UMB. I would be interested in hearing about it. My STA's have served me and my son well and hopefully someday the grandsons. With 270 North Fork bullets it is a wicked Elk getter or anything in Alaska and most in Africa. Good shooting.

That is the 358UMT (Ultra Mag Towsley) started life as a 300 ultra mag necked up to 358. As to other changes I have no clue. Going to add 10% or so capacity over the STA. But then again I find my 358Norma hits about as hard as I need from a 358.

Yes. My eventual goal is to sell the rifle and in the mean time have a show piece in my shop. I think if i were to try to sell it, while both would require the right buyer, the STA would make the easier sell since as you said ramrod, there is more data etc. Thanks.

I also have an STA so I am a little biased, but I would go with it for all the above stated reasons.

I think I'm fairly set on the STA. Thanks for the input.
