7.62x39 pressure ?
Can someone tell me the SAAMI pressure limits for the 7.62x39 cartridge ?

I think that it's listed as 45,000 psi for all the cheap SKS's and AK's out there. I'm sure a nice CZ, Ruger or other quality bolt gun could be used at higher pressures safely.

Speer claims 50,000 CUP SAAMI and the CIP spec is 51,475psi. Remember these are two different governing bodies and the measurments are arrived at differently. The two values might be quite different in the real world and not as similar as they seem.

RCBS-Load shows a ANSI limit of 45000cup, 310 CIP crusher and 355 CIP transducer.
Other cartridges with similar pressures:
257 Roberts 45000cup, 54000psi, 310CIP crusher, 355CIP transducer
303 Brit 45000cup, 49000psi, 320 crusher, 365 transducer
444 Marlin 44000cup, 42000psi, 310 crusher, 355 transducer
7x57 Mauser 46000cup, 51000psi, 340 crusher, 390 transducer
300 Savage 46000cup, 47000psi, 320 crusher, 365 transducer

Hope that helps (more than it confuses)

Thanks, this all came about from someone who wanted to convert a Carcano [38,000] to 7.62x39 .He wondered why his gunsmith refused !!

Tailgunner, This is interesting. I found my data in Speers #13 for the SAAMI pressure rateing (50K CUP) and the VV # 3 for the CIP. I wonder why Speer lists one value in their Manual and another in their RCBS Load program. BTW I checked and my RCBS Load shows the same......... bewildered

Ol' Joe. There must have been a SAAMI reduction, because I also have a 50,000 CUP recommendation From SPEER. CIP and SAAMI CUP are definitely different test systems, but The results are more similar than some are aware of. The Europeans also use another system of measurement and most American companies do as well, they don't seem to want to tell us about it, though. Resulting with pressure in BARs and can be achieved through crusher or piezoelectric transducer. Wink

1 BAR is 14.7psi or 760mm Hg. BAR is short for barametric pressure, and is equil to 1 atmosphere.

I think it is SAAMI registered as 45,000 psi, but the commie guns and ammo have thier own system.
