308 SMK180 load developement questions
I'm working up a load for my 700 Remington .308 I'm using a 20" barrel. elevation is 3500' and above. Temp range 30 - 65 deg F. I'm using once fired Fed brass. Hodgdon H4895 powder, Sierra match kings BTHP 180gr, I'm using 41.5 gr as my MAX load. I see that i've used Fed215 large magnum rifle primers. I'm starting at 38.0 grs and stepping up .5 grns at a time. Is my max load of 41.5 grs safe?

Only the load development you described can say whether that load is safe in your rifle.

Quickload predicts about 58,000 PSI from that load, out of a 60,190 rated max.

It is probably a hot load, but not insane. Be careful if you change brass. My experience says you'll get better accuracy with GM210M primers in the 308.

Good luck,

Thanks, looks like what I needed, I'll try a couple changes on the next batch.
