hivelosityreloading a 223 savage axis11 1:9 twist
having an issue wrapping my head around this. I have been shooting 52 and 55 gr bullets. load as usual and shoot.
I have a box of 68gr Hornady match bthp. They measure .990" long.
my chamber to the lands measure 1.80" with this bullet. Seated the load measures 1.78" or 2.26" oal.
this is as long as it can be seated. That means that .460" of the bullet is in the case at 25.5 grains of Varget the case is pretty full
slightly compressed.
is it the norm for these rifles to have that short of a chamber( throat)?? pictures may help if you care to look.

bigrdp51My Savage .223 has a throat longer than my AR15 rifles.
Just bump a case into your sizing die enough to be able to seat a bullet with your fingers. And then chamber and see if you get the same reading.
Short throated .223 rifles normally have a 1 in 14 or 1 in 12 twist.

hivelosityI did try that and got the same 1.80"
I cleaned the chamber and looked for a burr and all appears to be good.
