What I've learned about Nosler Partitions from the internet...
I mentioned in another thread that I’m working up a load for a 270 Win. using 150 grain Nosler Partitions. Although they’ve been around forever I’ve never used Partitions and decided to read up on them and this is what I learned:

(1) It’s easy to work up a sub-MOA load with Partitions

(2) It is impossible to work up a Partition load that will group better than 2" at 100 yds

(3) Partitions work best with max or near max powder charges

(4) Partitions work best with charges well below maximum

(5) Partitions need to be seated close to the lands

(6) Partitions like a long jump to the lands

(7) Seating depth doesn't matter with Partitions.

The only thing everyone agrees on is their terminal performance on game – which is why I’m using them in the first place. I guess I will have to sort out the rest on my own….

Just be sure the pointy end is sticking out of the case and you'll do fine Wink

meh just load them to the cannelure and closer your eyes when you pour the powder in.

they'll shoot or they won't.

Even before the internet came along depending on who you talked to Partitions were either the best or the worst bullet ever made. No matter I like them within their limits so who cares what others say. Big Grin

I've had really good luck with Partitions. My last trip to Africa I took my 6.5/.284 XP-100 handgun. The only bullet I took was 125 gr. Partitions. Took impala, blesbok, springbok, warthog all from 220-280 yards and a 800# kudu at 365 yards. All these animals were one shooters. Great bullet. I get 1" groups with them.

I loaded 160gr Noslers Partitions for my friends 7x57 for use on Aussie buffalo. They worked well on head and neck shots but not body shots. Not really the fault of the bullet more just the cartridge not grunty enough for slamming into buffalo willy nilly.

Also loaded Partitions for another friend's 7x64 but found they gave pressure signs early compared to other bullets we were loading, didn't follow up further with these. Also tried some Nosler Ballistic Tips in my first 7mm-08 but wasn't impressed with the accuracy I got.

Sierra Gamekings have always performed to perfection for me in every rifle I have used them in, never got excited about Nosler bullets.

180 grain Partitions from a 30-06 will kill African plains game quite reliably. I'm not likely to be the first to discover that, I'm sure! lol

In my experience Nosler makes some rather exceptional cup and core bullets for hunting. That is coming from a guy who has mostly used Speer and Hornady. Their accuracy and integrity is top shelf. Unfortunately I cant say the same for their reloading manuals. Whistling

I think the internet is a good place to learn the value of sorting things out for yourself. Wink

Thats interesting. Ive not had early pressure signs perse from Noslers. But I have had instances of where they gave the best velocity in a couple rifles. Not sure why.

I have shot Partitions for many years in all kinds of chamberings. My Elk hunting gang of eight hunters all shot 180 grainers at 3100 fps with .300 Win Mags and accounted for dozens of Cows and Bulls. My grandson shot a 180 pound Whitetail head on with my .257 Weatherby load with 120 grain partitions at 3450 fps and recovered the bullet perfectly mushroomed trying to exit the ham, didn't move a muscle after the shot. Only other bullets that I use that compare are the Barnes TSX or Northforks. They are our standard bullets and I don't see that changing. Good Shooting.

The Nosler partition is the bullet by which all hunting bullets are judged by and Ive found them extremely accurate over the last 70 or so years, but today most hunting bullets are excellent. ALL ELSE IS TWADDLE!!
