Headstamp ID?
Anybody have any idea who made this? I dug it out of the bins at my local range. Cal: .223/5.56mm

Originally thought it was Lake City but looks more like military...

Looks like a piece of Lake City 2007 brass that has been reloaded and fired several times at fairly high pressure.

Cheers Dudes!
Most of the .223 brass I get is Radway Green boxer primed stuff or the 200 once fired Federal that were in the same bin as this...
My mate took the piss out of me but it sure pays what with the current prices of components in the UK

Lake City IS military. The other indentations are ID marks from SCAMP machinery, not high pressure. Hard to see because the photo is blurry but it's probably Station 16 or 19.

The Lake City I have shot does not have those marks. They look like the ejector cut [it is a circle] in the bolt of a model 700, or some other rifle.

Not all LC has them. SCAMP is Small Caliber Ammunition Modernization Program. They set up some machines to make the "dots" which correspond to a numeric code. The pattern tells them which particular machine made the case so that they can monitor the equipment for quality control. I think there other countries that use the system although I'm not sure which ones they are.

Ray IIRC (and we know my memory is failing) Foosgray in Australia is also using SCAMP equipment

The primer doesn't seem to be crimped like I remember military primers used to be crimped with red sealant.

That case does have the ring crimped primer.

Here's a better photo showing the SCAMP "dots". The "Modernization" in SCAMP refers to modernizing the production equipent, not the cartridge.
