HAWK BULLETS
Any one that has any experience of the Hawk bullets? Do they separate or not?

Used their 400gr JFP (.45-70) on a 350lb Boar last year. Devastating performance, shot completely through animal ("armor", ribs, and out far-side ribs/"armor"). Heart and lungs were completely destroyed.

Also used their 400gr JHP (.45-70) on Spanish Goat, and similar performance.

We are a custom-loader, and for premium performance, the best choices are Hawk, Barnes-X, Swift and Woodleigh.

abn82nd, a couple of questions:

What was the jacket thickness of those 400's? What was the muzzle velocity at which they were fired, and the distance to the game?? Thanks very much.

I have blown about 20 of them inside out on game, complete seperation of jacket and lead...they just turn inside out in modern loadings with modern calibers regardless of jacket thickness..They need to be bonded...they seem to work OK in slow big bores such as the 45-70 and 45-90, but I will never shoot another head of game with them.....the 400 gr. 404 with a .50 jacket will come apart on a Eland or Buffalo. I had trouble with them in 338 .35 or .30 jackets ans with the 7x57 also with heavy jackets on deer sized game...Basically I think they suck and are nothing more than a old time conventional bullet surrounded by a lot of BS.....

Go to the www.24hourcampfire.com There is a guy there who will give you Hawk bullets for nothing to try.

The only problem he is having is that his rifles are blowing up using them.
