<Sniper>270-300 Win Mag
I was passing some time looking at Pac-Nor's web site and saw that they offer this round in their wildcat section. Anyone have any knowledge of this round? What kind of ballistics does it have? Is it comparable to the 270 Weatherby Mag?

R FlowersI have absolutely no knowledge of what might be expected of this round, but it should be at least as fast as a 270 Weatherby Magnum.
This case has a good deal more powder capacity than the 270 Weatherby Magnum and all things being equal, should generate more velocity.
I worked a good deal with a 7mm X 300 Winchester Magnum and it was a good wildcat. It gave velocities quite a lot faster than either a 7mm Rem Mag or a 7mm Wby mag.
When Roy Weatherby worked up the 270 Weatherby Magnum he did not have the powders to work with that we had today. That being the case, a large volume case just was of no value for a .277 cartridge at the time. So, he wound up shortening the 300 H&H case. I feel that the 270 Weatherby and the 7mm Weatherby are great cartridges and are sort of overlooked by the shooting public. But having said that, with todays powder choices, a larger case could produce some impressive velocities.
You may have to reduce the neck diameter in couple of steps when you make cases, though. I imagine reducing it from 30 caliber to 270 might lead to a lot of case failures during forming. You might have to go down to 7mm as an in-between step.
Good luck if you decide to try it.

<David>It may not be a problem necking down in 1 step. I have necked 8mm Mag to 7mm STW in 1 step without any problems. I have a 270 Wby on a customized M98 with a 26" barrel and 3450 to 3500 fps is no problem with 130gr Noslers using IMR7828.

<Sniper>Thanks for the replies. I am still early in the contemplation stage, if I decide to do it I'll post more information about it.

Mark R DobrenskiIn the mid 50's and 60's they had the 7 Mashburn Super (300 H&H trimmed and necked to 7 then they went to the 300 Win down to 7)
I've been shooting the 7 Mashburn Super for several years. It is a 2 step neck down and then a re-size b4 charging.
I really love mine, sure the 270 Mashburn Super would be --- and yes it would be very close to the 270 Wby.
