Jeff Higgins60gr Vmax load
Hi everybody!
I have a RRA Varmint gun in .223 I am working on a load for. 1-8" twist with an 18" barrel. I have been trying H335 and am getting 1"-1.75" groups. Reading some of the manuals it seems that H335 is better for the lighter loads. Would I be better of looking at another powder? If so which ones?
Also, I have been using CCI 400 primers. Do I need to be using magnums with ball powders?
If you have a pet load for 60gr bullets I sure would like to hear about it.

vapodogOnly your gun has answers to questions like that.
This I will say....you don't need a magnum primer with the 223.....even with ball powder!
H-335 has worked for me and If I was getting 1.75" groups, I'd be checking my rifle first....bedding primarily!
But you said you have an RRA Varmint gun.....is that a Ruger Ranch rifle .....a mini-14? If so, that's about as good as you might get!

perryH4895 works well in my AR with the lighter bullets, 24gr with a 62gr bullet.

seafire/B17GTry 27.5 grains of IMR 4320...
or 25 grains of Varget or IMR 4895...
25 grains of IMr 4064 also works well, but is a pain charging 22 caliber cases with because of its grain size...
25 grains of H 322 is also proven very accurate in my Savage with that bullet... in fact that and the IMR 4320 load are the two most accurate with that bullet..
I have found the 60 grain V Max for some reason to be a lot more finicky on accuracy, in several of my 22 caliber rifles, (with fast twists I might add)...than compared to 55 grain V Maxes...
If you do have problems switch to the 55 grain V Maxes and you will find accuracy is not so hard to find...

NEJackMy RRA likes 23.3 gr of AA2460. Gets under 1".
