handgun - profile crimp (new dies....better dies)
I reload alot of handgun rounds for revolvers, everything from 38 cal thru to 460 S&W. Much of it is lead hard cast bullets. I am not discussing rounds reloaded with the requirement that they feed properly through an automatic action.

I have always seated bullets and profile crimped only enough to ensure that the bullet is firmly set against the case. Recently I switched from LEE dies to the REDDING die sets with titanium carbide for FL sizing. What I noticed is that the quality of the REDDING sizing die combined with a precision REDDING bullet seating die makes for a tight and firm bullet seating without adding any crimp as a separate step. I find this is especially true for the jacketed bullets, but to a large extent even the lead bullets seat very firm against the case.

I also notice that the acurracy without crimping on rounds prepared with the new dies is as good as when I used to crimp.

Anyone had a similar experience?
