I just bought a few goodies from a local fellow who was getting out of reloading because he doesn't have the time to devote to it any more.



Here's what was included...

Powder:

IMR-4831 - ½ full (use it)
Unique - ½ full (never tried it, but could use it)
2400 - ½ full (use it)
231 - full, never opened (use it)
IMR4350 - ½ full (use it)
H110 - ½ full (use it)
H4831 - ½ full (use it)
IMR4895 - full, never opened (use it)

Brass:

44 mag - 200 (red can)
.223 - 60 pcs (use it)
.357 Mag - 200 new, ~350-400 fired (blue can)
.22-250 - 100 (ziploc bag)
.44 Special - 92 (ammo boxes)

Primers:

700 - CCI Small Pistol (use these)
1500 - CCI Large Rifle (use these)
300 - CCI Small Rifle (use these)
600 - CCI Large Pistol Magnum (use these)
300 - CCI Small Pistol Magnum
1420 - Federal Large Rifle Magnum (use these)

Misc.

7 - RCBS shell holders
1 - Set of Bueller 1" scope rings
1 - Set of mstery 1" scope rings
3 - MTM/Berry's plastic ammo boxes (can always use these)
1 - RCBS Primer Pocket Cleaning Tool
1 - RCBS Large Flash Hole Reamer
1 - RCBS Small Flash Hole Reamer

Everything is in excellent condition from what I see. I've indicated what I can actually use.

What's the whole bunch worth ? I'll post what I paid after everyone gets a guess

New about 200 dollars worth of stuff. Used, I would say you paid 60 dollars. Maybe 50.

$50- should fetch this. I'm not big on pickin' nits and if the current owner didn't like my offer, they could keep it.

I'd go a lot lower on value than the other posters.

Opened cans of powder are useful only as fertilizer...

Used brass ... well ... depends on the condition and what it was fired in...I would go for around $3 for the lot.

Primers I would go for around $12 per thousand...if the lot numbers matched. If not, then around $5 per thousand.

The RCBS shell holders are worth around $3 each

The rest of the stuff is "gim-mes"...

So I would say around $40 at the most.

Safety first. I would not buy an opened can of powder. You have no idea what you are getting.

I would offer $50, and go as high as $80.

I can idenify powder by the look, smell, and density. Likewise the condition.

I can even take powders that have no load data and work up uses, but they must be priced at a deep discount.

$50 is about right though Steve is probably more in line with real world prices.

I would never used an opened can of powder that was not mine. The cheap cost of powder outweighs the cost of the doctor bill and the new rifle you will have to buy when you blew it up.

I've received a lot of stuff from people that got out of reloading. I've never paid anything for any of it. The way I see it, if they are getting out of it, what they don't want they should just give it away and write it off. If No one buys it they would throw it away anyway. The only item I would offer to buy, would be dies, presses, etc. Never the bullets, primers, cases, powder, etc.

I would never pay for or take used powder. Like stated above, it's not that expensive to warrant a more expensive medical bill.

ricciardelli, Dwight, 270WSMMan, and HL all lack the skills to safely characterize and use an unidentified powder?

Imagine you are Jeff Bartlett, and you just got a few barrels of unidentified powder. So you put 10 grains in 30-06 and then look at the brass, you put 15 gr. in a 30-06.

Then you write something like this:

I don't think lack of brains is the problem, it is attitude and poor risk estimation.

I would be very hesitant of any opened container of powder. I wouldn't give anybody a nickel for a can. It's $15 per can new. I don't think it is worth it to blow up my gun.
The 231 is older than the hills. I haven't seen that Winchester can in at least 5 years. You might want to try to find the lot number and call Winchester to see when it was mfg.
The 2400 and H110 are old also. Those cans are flat out ancient.
Is the brass new or used? The brass you have listed if new would go for around $100. It would go for around $30 if used.
The primers you have listed would go for about $75 new.
The RCBS items I would maybe give $5 for.

So, if it were me I would have offer him about $50.
