yumastepside356 Win case capacity ?
Does anyone have some 356 Win cases ( NOT 358 ) that they could weigh empty them weigh again filled to the top with water ?
I'm looking for a capacity comparison to a case I'm using for a wildcat to give me a starting point for reloading...if that makes sense ??

hivelosity356 win cases that I have are heavy (thick) I checked 3 cases and was getting 54,55,55 grains of distilled water. 80% load density =44grs max.. check my math.
What wildcat you building?

FjoldThe 356 was based on the 307 Win case which is identical to the 308 Win case except for the rim and the 358 Win is also based on the 308 case. Both the 356 and 358 case have the same external dimensions (except for the rim) Every source (including SAAMI) that I have seen lists them as identical capacity at 57 grains.

yumastepsideThe 356 is supposed to have less capacity because of its thicker brass, which is why I need them measured.
I'm making a wildcat on an Italian Carcano action with 6.5x54 MS cases necked out to 35 cal. It should have a bit less capacity than a 358 Win and as the 356 has less capacity than the 358, I'm trying to find out the difference between my cases and the 356 cases....capacity wise.

yumastepsideAlrighty then...I weighed three of my PPU 6.5x54 MS cases (expanded to 358 ) and got 55gr's, so I'm thinking that as the cases are almost identical size, shape and capacity, I would be correct in assuming that 356 Win loading data would be the way to go ???
Any comments from the guru's....

hivelosityDid you check out the link that Frank has at the bottom of his comment.
If you are using 35Remington cases the difference will be 6grs.

yumastepsideYes, I've had that chart for some time and found it can be a bit general in some areas.
I'm using expanded (to .358 ) 6.5x54 MS cases with 180 gr hard cast powdercoated projectiles.
Powder...thats the next step...what works in a 356 ?
