Ramshot data for .338-06 and .35 Whelen

I'm looking for some data for the .338-06 and .35 Whelen or at least a good starting point. I've been wanting to try some Big Game, or Hunter powder as I've liked the TAC I'm using so far in my .223 loads. I'm looking for data using 200-225 grain in the .338-06 and 225-250 on the .35 Whelen.

I thought my buddy had tried it. If he did he didn't give me the data. I use RL15 and 4064 in my 340PDK. My case is a little larger than yours.

Hey Chad I'm using Ramshot Big Game in my 9.3x62 with the 270 and 286 grain bullets with excellent results. I think I've got some data around here for the 35 Whelen and the same powder, I'll try to look it up for ya.

The Whelen data Western gave ya
looks to me like it is *computer generated* and ultra conservative .

I can tell you that 2 grains more (of Big Game) than max for RL 15 in my Whelen rifle will deliver about 50 fps less ; this with 250 gr bullets .

FWIW to ya........as always , each rifle is an individual......

I don't know about that, but if I can get accuracy and near 2600 fps with a 250 grain .338 don't know what I'd shoot with it but it should stop it.

It looks like they were using a 26" bbl on the 338-06. But still, that's impressive velocities they're advertising.

Exactly , which is why I said the WHELEN data looks conservative........you'll note they held the 35 caliber data to an estimated 2450fps max(with 250 s)

Well that was with a 22" barreled .35 Whelen, but well see what I can get. I have a friend that will let me borrow his chronograph and lead sled if I ask. Right now my Whelen is in desperate need of a limb saver or something so 2450 with 250 grain bullets just makes me cringe.

Set your shooting position up so you are sitting up staight and I usually throw a padded rifle case over my shoulder with the wide part in front to soften the blow.Even then 20 rounds is a lot for me. Funny thing though all I hear is the echo if there is one when I shoot at deer or hogs.

I've been using a PAST pad when I bench the rifle, but I'm like you after 10-20 rounds I'm done. A new recoil pad is still going on this rifle in the future as the one on it probably isn't but 1/4" of rubber. I can only imagine how hard one of those 250 grain bullet hit.

I'll take any suggestions on powders and loads for either of these calibers. I've kind of been neglecting these rifles and intend to remedy that situation. I'm hoping to get several loads worked up soon and hit the range when the weather gets nice.

I've got a pretty good load using RL 15 and 200 grain Hornady's in the .338-06, but I have a ton of other stuff on the bench that needs to be used as well. So any and all load data you guys are willing to share I'll take.

A couple of loads:

338-06, 215 gr TSX, RL15 52gr. Loaded up to 54 gr with no pressure signs in my pre 64 fwt, 22" bored to 338. I believe the Hodgon max is like 53-54 gr.

35 Whelen, 250 gr partition, 59 gr RL15. Loaded up to 60 gr with no pressure signs in my Ruger tang safety. Hodgon max is 58 gr I believe.

As usual start low and work up.

62 gr of Big Game with a 210 TSX is a great load in my .338-06. It is the most accurate load for it and chronos 2800 fps on the nose out of a 24 in. barrel.
