Wizard786mm Remington 742 Load Data Needed
I recently gave a Remington 742 auto, in 6mm, to my BIL. I had never fired it but inspection showed very little wear. He is trying to find a load for the rifle to give him exceptable hunting accuracy, for 80 to 100 grain pills. Anyone have any favorite loads? Thanks in advance.

Jay Johnson87 gr. Hornady Interlock with about 41 gr of IMR 4350 should be close to 3000 fps and I used to get five shots that you could cover with a dime with that load. Oh RP brass and CCI Primer.

Wizard78Thank you JJ. Any more out there, in case this beast is fussy?

ReloaderWizard,
I used to hunt w/ a 6mmRem 742 and it shot the cheap factory 100 CLs pretty darn good for an auto. I know that doesn't help you as far as a reload is concerned but, you may be able to duplicate the accuracy by buying some of the cheap Rem CLs from midway and loading to a similar book velocity.
Maybe a load such as:
46 grns of R22, 44 grns of R19, 45 grns of IMR4831, or 43 grns of IMR 4350
One of those should get you close to the Rem factory loads.
Good Luck

Wizard78Worth relaying. Thanks, reloader.
I used to have trouble getting 742's to function with 4350.I needed to use IMR 4895 to get either of my 742's to cycle reliably(30-06 and 308)
But if will function with IMR 4831 I have had 2 bolt 6mm's that would shoot well with any hornandy flat base spitzer with around 45 grains of 4831
