seafire/B17GAfter testing a lot of powders.. like 15 different types...for the most velocity and best accuracy.. IMR 4895 and IMR 4064 have done the best for me..
I have not tested bulk powders like Rodger here gets..
But in my Savage12, I load 25 grains of either IMR powders above with bullets up to 80 grains...4895 is easier to work with in a 223 case neck.. but 4064 has proven to be the more accurate...3031 also turns in a good showing...
24 grains of Varget also is a rival for 4064 for accuracy...

308Sako500, My 77 Sierra load is 23.5 IMR 4895, F205M and Lake City or Winchester brass at 2.255 COL.
I'll have to look up the 69 grain load as that was afew years back, but also amazingly accurate.
Back in with the 69 grain combination: 23.1 grains of V V 135, F205M, IMI cases, COL 2.255. Velocity 2750
Colt 6724, Leupold Mark 4 - 16X, twist is 1 in 9

ptaylorIf you want top speed from the heavies take a close look at TAC. Meters like water, fairly temp stable, works great in a gas gun and for throwing charges. The SD and ES might not be as low as varget or RL15 but the accuracy will be there.
My BushMaster seems to enjoy a 69 grain Sierra HPBT match with 22.3 grains BLC-2 .Ditto on H335 also same specs.. That's as heavy as I go 70 grain !.
Mine seems to prefer 52 -70 grain projectiles . Although with 55 - 53 grain it prefers the two above powders . BlC-2 25.5 and H335 25.0 both have stuck groups of 5 in a single ragged hole on numerous occasions . .285" is my best group .375" is normal when I do my part . At 100 Yd.
I only have lowly BushMaster target and Colt Ar's though . By far my BushMaster's are the superior of them for accuracy .

lawndartptaylor has it nailed.
TAC is the handiest powder for this use, by a longshot. Load data is online.
