MikeNMuzzle blast and the 454 C
Would using a faster powder reduce muzzle blast? I have been shooting a 454 when deer hunting and the muzzle blast makes my ears ring. I am worried about loosing my hearing. When target shooting I wear ear protection, but when hunting I dont. I don't need full power loads for deer, velocity of around 1200fps with a 250 gr bullet would do fine.

SnowwolfeDoes your Casull have a muzzle brake on it?
Why not buy some Peltor 6-S electronic hearing protectors and protect your hearing even while hunting?

Paul HYou're going to have to wear hearing protection with any revolver when hunting to prevent hearing damage.
I've tried to load my 480 very mild for small game loads, 310 gr @ 700 fps, but even at that level, it is loud.
Sad to say every time you make your ears ring, you've lost some of your hearing. Even levels below ringing you do permanent damage.

cravenI use full power factory and hand loads when hunting with my 454 and I use the throw away ear plugs, it makes me focus more of what is around me and no worry when I pull the trigger.
