RiflemanZI DID IT! I shot my F-1!!!!!!
I shot my F-1 I knew it would happen sooner or later.I shot the skyscreen
metal rod in two.I guess i'll use a wooden rod to replace it.Has this happened to anyone else?

I think we have a standing account with PACT for replacement screens/parts

have ordered 4 sensors so far this year (and it's only March). If one is going to measure BCs with a set of screens at 50 yards - it's kind of the cost of doing business. Sometimes it's the photodiode assembly, sometimes it's the uprights - either way PACT wins.
do shoot straight (and as few sensor heads as possible),

pps. this is also why we use PACT screens - they're cheaper to replace.

Get some wooden dowls at your Home Depot or whatever. Also get a piece of 1/4" 2X2 angle and weld it to a plate or channel iron to protect the unit itself. I am on my third unit and dont want to "upgrade" anymore. This is what I mean on the angle,<______ then set the unit so the angle protects it.

IceHoleKenI decided to take a pic and post it. The angle is 3X3 (not 2X2). If you go to a steel warehouse you can ususally pick up drops for fifty cents a pound. So for a couple bucks you can protect your Crony. Notice a chip out of the top of the angle, that was a 45-70, the smaller calibers are deflected pretty good.

Ku-dudeYes. I shot my Chrony. The good news is that it was with my .22 shooting Aquila powderless rounds, and the bullet went right through this little hole in the unit, and hit the back of the front piece of the unit. It it had been anything else, it would have been ugly. Ku-dude

ART338gmushial,question if you please.
What is your opinion of Pact chronos over all. I am most likely going to buy their latest new for 2004 model, as I feel at around $225.00 its the best chrono for the $$$. How do thay perform in the field under varying lighting conditions?.
Have the Pact programable automatic powder despencer/scale and are 1000% happy with it adter 5+ years of use. It is still + or - accurate to within 2 tenths of a grain.

ddunnI shot my chronograph once.
Makes you feel like an idiot, doesn't it Or at least I felt like an idiot.
I got lucky. My chronograph still works.

SanmanI'm telling the honest to God's truth when I say that I have never shot mine, but I bet that if I use it enought the chances are real good that I will, probably sooner than later

bartscheShot one Chrony and whish I had shot the other 2 I gave away. I now happily use a OEHLER. Not even in the same ball park.

stubblejumperI have heard of it happening but I don't understand how.I use low power on my scopes shooting over the chronograph and can easily see the chronograph, screens and rods.

djpaintlesI can't beleive I haven't hit my Pro-chrono yet! 15 years and I keep missing the damn thing. I keep telling myself Ill buy a better one when I drill it but haven't yet.

<eldeguello>I have been using chronographs since about 1965, and haven't shot one yet! Knock on wood!!

Of course, the early ones had cables from the start/stop screens, and didn't place the box downrange in the line of fire....
30 March 2004, 00:58
OddballPeople keep telling me that there are 2 kinds of chrono users. The ones who have shot their chrono and the ones who are about to. I am happily in the later group.

ReconoClearly, when hunting F-1's, while a slug gun will do in a pinch, the classic .416 Rigby with its higher sectional density is a much safer choice.
As I recollect, I was so pleased with the reasonable recoil, probably because of the heavy scope mounts, that I left the range smiling, anyway.
Regardless, the Chrony expired immediately, and was buried with honors in the local 55-gallon recycling cylinder.
I intend to be more cautious with my Oehler.

<JOHAN>Gentlemen
It's of great economic benfits to buy a cronograph were the screens are separated from the electronic gadjets
I prefer Oehler's since if something goes wrong, screens are expendable, the box is safely on the bench

My second cronograph is a Oehler. The first was "el cheapo" that was very functional. I managed with great accuracy to shot it smack in the middle

Cheers
