My original batch of 80 cases (Federal) are coming to the end of their life after 9 reloadings. Looking for quality replacement brass but don't think Lapua/Norma produce cases in this calibre. Question is can I simply buy 308 cases and run them through a 7-08 full size die and use them or will there be a need to neck turn or whatever to account for the brass flow?

Not likely you'll have to turn the cases but it's largely dependent on your chamber. If it's the typical sloppy fit, factory chamber you can probably just run 'em in the die, load them and shoot.

Measure one of your fired cases now. That should get you close to the neck dimension of your chamber. Then, when you get your new cases, size them and seat a bullet. Then measure the neck diameter. If you have at least .002" difference, or more, from your fired case you'll be quite safe. Likely you'll have much more than that, probably closer to .004" difference in a typical factory chamber. Have fun shooting.

Sako makes quality brass in 7mm08! I presume any Sako dealer should be able to get them.

You will end up with a shorter than normal case. .020 shorter. The 7-08 is 2.035, the .308 is 2.015. No big deal, just less neck to grip the bullet.

I've doon it with my kids Browning a-bolt with no problems with too thick a neck.

You might try .260 cases also.

its easily done with .243 brass. And you don't have to worry about neck turning. I would imagine the same is true for .260 brass.

I use 243 Rem brass for my 243 260 7mm8 and 308 without any issues at all.. Plus the 243 is the cheapest of them all..

Thanks for the replies. I will try the Sako importers for their brass first and if unsuccessful at least I know that sizing other brass should not be a difficult operation.
