quarterboreHodgdon loads for 300 WSM
I'm advising a buddy on getting into reloading. He just bought a Weatherby Vanguard in a 300 WSM with the idea that it would be more economical to shoot if he learned how to load his own.
I favor Hodgdon powders. Does anyone have any good loads with Hodgdon powder for the 300 WSM?
Thanks.

LWDA good place to start is
Hodgdon's Load Data I can't be anymore helpful than that as my .30 cal is an '06.

Mike1I found that my gun likes Varget better than any other Hodgdon or anyone else's powder when using 165-168gr bullets. Most consistent powder I've used in 300WSM. Other shooters have said the same thing for both lighter and heavier bullets.

Fish30114quarterbore, two things on the 300 WSM. They tend to like mid range powder charges in my recent experience--I've had a few that liked near max, but the last several I've helped develop a load for (5) all liked mid to below mid charge ranges. Start with the low range as always with the recommended Hogdon powder. Secondly, they do much better with the lighter for caliber bullets, 150's or 165's IME. I have found that Win LRM primers work better--go figure--maybe just a fluke.
Good Luck!

homebrewerI use 65 grains of H4831SC under a 180-grain Sierra MatchKing in Winchester brass. I use WLRM primers. My best group is .254 at 100 yards...
