Quickload help 338 Win
Can I get somebody to run a Quickload test for me please?

I'm putting together a new load for an old bullet.

Nolser partition 225 gr, Fed mag primer, RL-22, win brass. Seated to oal of 3.340"

Lyman manual says max charge is 76.0 grs for same bullet and Rem mag primer. It just "sounds" a bit high to me?

Not sure if it matters, but my barrel is 21" long, and don't know if any other info would be needed?

Thank you in advance.

Note not able to select brand of brass or primer.
Bullet and powder are as defined in your post.
Quick Load gives these results.
MV=2740 fps, max pressure 56789psi
The above load is compressed. the powder fills 107.9% of case volume.
Note SAMMI Pmax is 62366 psi. This gives you a little cushion.
Hope this helps

I use 75 gr of R-22 and get 2750 fps from my tikka T-3 lite with 24" barrel. Federal 215 primers and Federal brass. Shoots into less than an inch.

Thanks muck,

I had stopped at 75.0 grs in my test ladder loading. I think I'll try 75.5 grs as a max and see if I make it that high. I'm starting at 73.0 grs and going up in .5's. I may not even shoot the 75.5's, depending on how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

tjay,

I was thinking that 75.0 might be all I'd need. Will have to see what the gun likes I guess.

Thanks.

You may want to stop and check your loads out here. The loads may be pretty strong (hot) at this point.

Mick,

Hey thanks for the screen shot. I had no intention of loading a 78.0 gr load!

My max loaded test load so far is 75.5, and I doubt I'll even try the 76.0 load, let alone hotrod anything higher.

Thanks for passing on the load info guys, I appreciate it.
