All the data I can find seems to be for MAXIMUM velocity.

My goal is minimum recoil, for teaching my 7 year old son, and his mother, to shoot. I would like to duplicate .223 Rem. ballistics, i.e., 55 gr. @ 3100, 70 gr. @ 2700.

Any suggestions ??

I HAVE .223's already.

We ALWAYS wear our ear and eye protection when we shoot.

I want to teach him on this gun, so that when I GIVE it to him, he won't have a new trigger, sight, etc., to learn. I intend to work from the sabot loads, to 90 gr., .30 cal. pistol bullets, to 100 gr. plinkers, etc. etc., until he can handle full loads w/150 BT's. I expect to take about 18 to 24 months to do this.

I asked for advice on loads, not on purchases or how to teach my son.

Look up Seafires green dot loads, those would be just fine. Otherwise maybe 7 grains of bullseye.

I seem to recall that someone sells the sabots and packs information for loading with them.

Try using XMP5744 powder with 110 grain lead bullet charges. Accurate's web site has information for this powder. It's designed for good ignition at low pressures and low loading densities.

I've never tried these. I've tried remington accelerator, they're fun, but not very accurate in my rifle.

Cabela's a while back sold chamber inserts to fire .32 auto shells in a 30-06. Would accomplish the same thing.

It took me years to work up to an -06 and I still hate bench work (I started with a bb gun at 10).

There's a guy in Utah who sells sabots for your idea. I think he's out of Provo or Orem. He supplies loading data on his website. The name J&D Components, Inc. comes to mind...

I have only loaded sabots in a 30/40 Krag, a 40 gr .224
and 40 gr 4198 gave 3370 fps. With the light bullet recoil
is almost nonexistant.
Good Luck!
