I have acquired a .25ACP pistol, and am having trouble finding ammo at anything resembling a reasonable price. Gunbroker has it for over a buck a round, for what is essentially a .22LR with a small pistol primer.

Anyone out there have brass for .25ACP they want to sell me? Any recommendations on molds for a 50 grain bullet?

I went that route with a .380ACP and it aint worth it.

The .25 ACP is really just a joke of a pistol to shoot.

Too small to shoot, too small for anything useful.

The only thing the 25 has going for it that it's loud, as proved by a friend of mine who was about to get robbed on a dark city street, when he heard 2 guys running up behind him + his girlfriend. He just turned around + shot in their general direction + they took off. As to it's potency; several years ago I had a friend that was afraid of getting robbed, etc. + asked if I had a gun he could have. I gave him a 25 to help him sleep better. I had no idea the guy was suicidal. He shot himself in the temple with it + all he managed to do was blow out his eyeball. I still feel bad about giving him that pistol but those are the results. Not very impressive.

One of the other guys was about 450lbs. Hell of a nice guy. Saw him fairly often. Then didn't for a long time.

We met in the KCKans terminal. I asked where he'd been hiding. "I got drunked up and started beating on the little woman. She said to stop it or she'd shoot me. I dared her, she did."

I called bullshit to that. Bunch of other drivers knew he was fairly short tempered so they watched the show.

He opened his shirt to show us seven red spots on his chest. "that's the only time I've ever been glad to be a fat man".

She for sure had him centered well. Dandy pattern about 5" right around the brisket.

It is not any worse for self defense than 22 LR, especially if fired from short barrel. Of course FMJ is preferred because of limited penetration. My FN Baby Browning has 95 or 97 J muzzle energy with 50gr FMJ bullet. Friend killed 120 kg pig easy with just one headshot.

Of course, it is really underpowered for real self defense situation.

Once my boss, (in the Division G4) brought in a 25 Auto which wouldn't cycle and asked me to fix it; it needed a recoil spring. I took it out into the woods to test fire. Aimed at a big beech tree about ten feet away and fired 5 shots. The bullets did not even penetrate all the way into the bark; the bases were flush with it. After that I knew the 25 was too weak to take seriously. Only will stop the person who is undetermined to kill you. Because it would feel like a bee sting. A sick bee.

My buddy has a mold , used it once, stood bullets up in a pan, poured liquid wax in, used a 25-06 case to cut them out of the wax.

Bullseye powder, can't deprime them the normal way, primer pops out a bit after firing in an auto, won't slide into a standard the shellholder.

Great feedback, thanks. For as crappy as everyone says it is, components should be plentiful and cheap! Unfortunately nobody even has dies in stock right now. I think things will calm down in the future and prices will come down as well ($59 a box for .25 right now!).

Perhaps a card table gun. If you can stick it in the foes ear you have a good chance of hitting the target. The upside is that it is easy to carry and much better than no gun at all if needed.

Most have heard that it is a good bear gun. Don't hunt alone. If attacked by a bear, shoot your buddy in the knee with it then you can outrun him, don't have to worry about out running the bear.

Not so Saeed, it makes a good sinker on a fishing line!!

I know a guy who had pretty much the same experience. He lived to tell the tale. Quite eloquently, I might add.

I had heard of that study but never actually seen it. It is very interesting for sure. Note that the least effective cartridges still have a fatality rate of about 50%. I would not like to bet by life on those numbers. Most .25 auto factory ammo is pretty anemic. You can improve things quite a bit in a well built pistol.

Far worse than .22 LR? No way. I don't know what shitty ammo you used, but it has about the same muzzle energy (if fired from same short barrel) as .22LR. Plus 25 % heavier FMJ bullet. I did a lot of penetration tests and it was not bad (into yellow pages). I also compared Speer gold dot, S&B FMJ, Fiocchi FMJ and Fiocchi lead.

when I was a deputy sheriff in El Paso, Tx I found a man shot 3 times in the head, got him to the hospital and he survived rather quickly..He was shot at point blank while sleeping in his car on the side of the road, and robbed, left for dead,not one of those bullets, full metal jacketed penetrated into the brain matter!! Ive seen a number of fatalities with a 22 L.R. both solids and HPs and complete brain and chest penetration,from Saturday night specials in 22LR caliber..

I recently had a new Browning scaled down 1911, and you could fire 10 rounds in a single heart beat, thats a deadly threat when used like that..Sold it because my hand had trouble with the grip safety..Neat little gun..
