Not sure about the case capacity of the 300J but it did work good for me in a very fussy 300 wby ultralight. Some people say it's a dirty burner but I've not found that to be true if you are running near max pressures.

the 2 top powders I'd use in that cal are Re25 and Retumbo. Take your pic. My 3rd choice would be WC872. Can't go wrong with any of those 3.

Not my rifle. It belongs to a friend of mine and was with him at the range when he tried the Retumbo last year.

I'll email him to see what he finished up with.

I'm certain the bullet weight was 180 and I know the primer was Fed215 GM.

I could be wrong so take note of that but I want to say his charge of Retumbo was in the 80.0 grain mark or close....low 80s.

What is the case capacity of the 300J...I'm under the impression that it's virtually the same as the 300wby?? If so You'll wind up with more powder than that.

I agree with kraky - I think case capacity is real close to the 300 Weatherby. Retumbo might be a little too slow for this cartridge.

Used Retumbo in my 30/378 since H-870 was discontinued. One thing I have found is there is some inconsistency in burn rate from batch to batch. Initial load development ended up using 112gr under 180gr Accubonds with no issue. The last bottle I bought, I could not safely go over 110gr.

Be careful!

The parent case of the 300 jarrett is the 8mm Remington Magnum.
