1894mk2Angel (243win) vs Devil (6mm-284)
Primary use small deer out to 300yards
Low volume varminting out to 300yards
Action - Sako AII
Barrel - length 26"
primarily for 85gr but able to handle 105gr soft points (speer) at a pinch (so plan on 9 twist)
Mag length - max col 2.75"
Angel or Devil?
Angel says this is prime 243 territory, Devil says you only live once, barrel steel is cheap and an 85gr might be driven at 3,400fps. Angel says so what does that do that 3,250fps doesn't, Devil says 105gr difference bigger, Angel says how often do you plan on using them, Devil says you can download me, Angel says you can pick up 243 anywhere and you allready have the dies, Devil says you should get better dies anyway and not use old brass in a new chamber.
At present Angel is winning....

<JOHAN>I understand the confusion. Throw me a pair of those wings

In a perfect world 6mm rem would be the ideal

reverenddanWhat's small deer? Shouldn't 85 grain pills be enough?
I understand the conundrum! My wife constantly catches me having arguments with myself in the reloading room!

FjoldFor 300 yards and less you'll never need the 6-284. 300 yards is the perfect max for the 243, burn less powder, resale's higher and you have more than enough gun.

Maybe 243 AI is an answer; you can still shoot factory ammunition when you run short.
I went the 6mm-284 route with an ex-243, twist isn't enough for heavy bullets but 85 grain Noslers have been sufficient for what I wanted to do anyway.

Indeed I love the 6mm rem (and I have one!) but it is too long to feed from this action comfortably

naja302I say live a little... 6-284

Or if you must be practical and boring, then go 243AI.
