Texas50cal38 Special Blanks - Greener Harpoon Gun
I have purchased a Greener Harpoon gun that fires with 38 special blanks. I have been able to find a few "dead" threads on the subject but nothing definitive.
I have two question's:
Does anyone have experience reloading for this gun that would be willing to share their load data?
Does anyone know where to obtain a crimp die for the 38 special. I am looking for something that will put a traditional blank crimp (star crimp?) Not a roll crimp.
Any thoughts on the subject would the appreciated.
Thanks

RapidrobCan you provide a photo of the gun and it's Harpoon?
a .38 special blank would be very anemic for launching a harpoon. Is there any chance it could be a Line Throwing Gun?
Just asking.

LapidaryWhen my dad died I found some 38spl blanks in his stuff, they weren't crimped they had wax down in the case.
Do a search on the headstamp - WRA SPL Tool. They are sealed in with what looks like wax and with a roll crimp. I too have some left over from dads stuff.

There is someone who makes a star crimp die for making blanks - I will see if I can find the source and list it.

Mark ClarkI almost bought one in the early 80's.
When you need harpoon gun there is no tool that is a suitable substitute.
Does the gun have any proof marks?
There appears to be two kinds of blanks, one with a straight wall 38 and another necked down to about 25. Likely to prevent a cartridge with a bullet from chambering.
I found the below picture marked with using #5 Cordite.
http://iaaforum.org/forum3/vie...9adef109c95&start=15 The article said it was a 38 but 14 grains seems like a lot to fit in and a 16 oz harpoon sounds heavy. I have seen one using a 45/70 (or it could have been an English cartridge) and another with a shotgun blank.
