Savage_99Primer diameters.
Large rifle primer diameters measured to tenth's with my mic.
WLR------ .2100, .2101, .2099
CCI BR2-- .2110, .2110, .2108, .2108
FED 210M- .2109, .2107, .2105
As you know the WLR primers are no longer plated like the others still are.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.
When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!
Do that with your optics.
Do you think the differences are enough to feel if seating with a hand tool?

Savage_99The differences are easy to tell even with a Lee primer tool on a large RCBS 1V.
I was seating the WLR's in some new WW brass and many times loaded WLR brass and some of the WLR's seated so loose that I could push out the seated primer with my home made knock out pin and my hands!
Yes I also conclude that the maximum listed load for H4350 in my 30-06 may well on the hot side for that rifle. I am going to load them down, ie: with less H4350.
And not buy any more WLR primers!

And I just bought 5K of them...

I had some loose primer pockets on a specific batch of brass. I had an old batch of Winchester LR primers and they had the largest diametre of all:
CCI BR 0.2108”
HIRT 1215 0.2107”
FED 215 0.2175”
FED 210 0.2105
WIN LR 0.2115
It therefor seems that the diametre differs from time to time and from batch to batch.

Very easily.
Primer diameter will vary by lot...
The 3 legged anvil makes the primers out of round so you cannot accurately measure the diameters without a special micrometer. You cannot accurately measure a 3 lobed feature with two contact faces.
I have pretty much stopped using the new non-plated Winchester and Federal primers for that very same reason, they were waaay too lucy in Winchester brass and Remington also. Remington primers were inconsistant.
Have almost exclusively gone to CCI 200 and 250s. They fit tight every time.
Wolf primers fit good also.... So far.

impala#03I did not have problems with the brass and different primer diameters, but had problems with the primer magazine on my Dillon 650. Fiochi primers hung up in the primer magazine. It drove me nuts until I figured out what was happening.
