How to calculate velocity
I have a question,Does anyone have a formula to calculate velocity down range at different distances? Example, A 250 gr. 50 cal. bullet leaving the muzzel at 2000fps , What would be the velocity be at 100 yds. 125 yds. 150 yds. and so on. Thanks Roger

If you have the ballistic coefficient there is a formula I believe but this has always been a little strange for me to understand as I understand the ballistic coefficient can change with velocity.

All you need is the Ballistic Co-Efficient

http://www.realguns.com/ballistics.htm

Here is the numbers for a 250 gr. Barnes Expander @ 2000 fps

100y- 1623 fps
125y- 1538 fps
150y- 1459 fps
175y- 1384 fps
200y- 1314 fps
225y- 1251 fps
250y- 1194 fps

Go to this website and download their pointblank software:

http://www.huntingnut.com/pointblank.html

It's free and it'll not only tell you velocities but trajectory, and a bunch of stuff you never thought you needed to know. It's a very nice ballistics program. You need to know the velocity and ballistic coefficient, the BC's are available off of the bullet manufacturer's websites.
