Forgive me for my ignorance but what can someone tell me about this caliber?

If you mean in reference to a 7.92x57mm I believe that is 8x57 or 8mm Mauser

7.92 X 57 is 8mm Mauser. I chrono'd some surplus Turkish ammo, the 70 rd. stuff in the green bandoliers.

155 gr. bullet and 2965 fps mean velocity for 10 rds from a 29" bbl. 98/22 Mauser.

Equadoran ammo in the plain grey cardboard box was running about 2550 fps. This stuff was giving me mis-fires about every fifth round. A second strike would ignite these primers. I wonder if there's any relation between the primer mis-fires and the slower velocity of the ammo -- like it's damp or something.
