If you're refereing to the black coating on the P gold bullets, it's not moly. Lubaloy or lubalux is what it's called. Nobody knows what it consists of, nearest guess is some sort of plastic paint.

Grizz, the Partition Gold was indeed coated with a moly coating. The Ballistic Silvertip was coated with the Lubalox as was the Failsafe. The Partition Gold was also offered as a moly free which is what helidriver72 was asking about. "Moly Free" was part of the product description. I worked at Nosler for 6 years and designed the tooling that made the Partition Gold product line.
Just wanted to clarify a little.

That is some unbelieveable tough moly. This summer Midway had a hell of a deal on bulk 150gr .308 partition molly. $4.99/50 I tried taking the molly off by soaking in pure ammonia for about 5 minutes and it barely touched the coating.
I figured it was a waste of time so I shot 'em as is and they shot great....especially out of my .308 bar. Now when I clean the gun I get lots of black patches but I guess I'm not gonna worry about it. I think I have one hell of a potent whitetail combo for Wisconsin hunting which is usually under 100 yds shooting.

Thanks uncjoe, I wasn't aware of that, I stand corrected. I would bet that some time in a vibratory tumbler would remove the moly.

No trouble at all on the info. I loved that job and made sure I knew everything about the products. I needed that though, since I filled in on the customer service tech line when Mike Harris went to lunch and on vacation.

The Partition Gold was a little over complicataed and it was not properly marketed. It should have never been sold as a moly coated bullet, moly doesn't belong on a hunting bullet.
It was a joint project with Winchester and I think they lost interest. It really just didn't sell that well. It was and is an awesome bullet, being a little bit more of a partition than the original partition. It expanded at a little lower velocity, held together better at higher velocity, and made a larger, longer wound channel. It was great but lack of proper marteting killed it.

The moly coating Nosler used is very tough and a proprietary process developed specially for that product. I think I remember it was sprayed on and baked but I can't be sure.
I don't know if the tumbler would take it off or not, maybe with some aggressive rouge.
