dubs22-250What powder for my 22-250 reloads????
Getting closer guys!!! Need powder recommendations for my 22-250 loads. WIll be shooting out a 26" barreled savage 12bvss and shooting 50gr Hornady V-max. I'm guessing I need a slow to medium burn, but not sure. Going to use the CCI primers. What do you think???

swheelerI use the military surplus version of H380,called special ball, but only shoot 52 and 55 gr bullets. In a 26 inch barreled Ruger the 55 gr clocks 3750fps. H380 powder is worth a look, meters like a dream.

12FVSS260IMR4064 - H380 - IMR4895 are all very good. IMR4064 works the best for me in same gun with same bullet. Try around 36 - 36.3 gr but work up to it, 1/4" groups and 3900fps from 26" barrel. Winchester brass and either CCI BR2 or WLR primers complete the load.

+1 on the IMR4064 and H380. Another good one is Varget.
I mainly shoot 55 gr NBT's though.
Here's some more discussion on the 50 grain bullets.

SnellstromSomewhere in the range of 37 to 39 grains of H380 seems to drive 50 and 53 grain bullets pretty well (accurate). I'm recently finding RL-15 is showing some real accuracy in my rifle with the same bullets. My loads are all in WW cases and CCI primers.
Good luck with yours.

the jiggerSomeone mentioned IMR4064 and i agree wholeheartedly; however, don't overlook RL15 and Varget. They both work well for me.

Rick BehlingIMR 4064 has always worked for me.

seafire2My favorite Two are RL 7 and IMR 4895...
Like 4064, but the neck on a 22 caliber case is not necessarily user friendly when loading IMR 4064....
AA 4064 is a good alternative.... is more user friendly on 22 caliber necks...

cummins cowboyh380 sucks IMO, if you wanna shoot a 22-250 most people wanna go fast, its like owning a corvette every now and then you want the power, if you load h380 to its potential in the 22-250 case its very temp sensitive, which to me regardless of what performance it can put it, makes it a non choice for me. currently RL-15 is my favorite choice, it pushes 50grn bullets even faster than h380 without the temp issues, I am getting 3900 with a 22" barrel. its not quite as accurate as h380 but not having the other hassles is worth it

buckshotGood ol' W-W748 is always worth a try. I also like IMR's 4064, 4895 and W-W748 more than I do H380.
Federal primers have never disappointed.

DMBMy particular 22-250 likes Benchmark best, followed closely by Varget. I get three shots at 100 yards into a 1/4" group, making it my most accurate sporter, using 32.6 grains of Benchmark with Sierra 55 HPBT's and Fed 210M primers. I use a 36x scope for load developing, then switch to a hunting scope. Bullets are seated .010 off the lands.
But, each rifle is a study unto itself. I have owned 22-250's that shot best with H-380, IMR 4320, and IMR 4064, so you'll need to find the right powder for your rifle.
If I were testing a new 22-250, I would test the powders I mention, plus the ones mentioned by the guys above.

ReloaderThe 22-250 is golden with many different powders. I've had oustanding results with AA2015BR as well as H4350, two totally differing burn rates.
Good Luck

FasteelMy Sako really shot some nice groups over the weekend with 50 grain Sierra bullet and 748 Win powder, the 55 gr Hornady's still need some work. FS
